orange_cream.jpgIt's often the question of the day for the "chef" of the house - What's for dinner? It's also the familiar quest to do something fun and unique at the next dinner party. Preparing meals during the busy week, having some fun on the weekends entertaining or just having a quiet Sunday to relax is only limited now by your imagination. What if you could freeze, mold, even bake with familiar characters and shapes everyone will be talking about.

Kick Up Your Mimosas champagne.jpgRecently celebrating our one year anniversary @Extraordinique, our friend and photographer, Calvina, suggested Tyler Florence's fantastic recipe for Orange Cream Mimosas. What was the most fun was using Sillycone's Symbol Ice Trays to toss in frozen @ symbols for our toast! Cheers!

Try Buckwheat Pancakes with Vanilla & Cinnamon Butter
yum.jpg Enjoying the smell of sizzling bacon and pancakes on the griddle makes for the perfect weekend morning, but how about kicking it up a notch by making your own infused butter cubes. We used Sillycone Letter Trays and made a mixture of vanilla and cinnamon in softened butter. Poured into the molds and wrapped in freezer wrap, not only were we able to take out what we needed, but we have some left over in the freezer to keep for the next pancake splurge. Yum!

Celebrate Colorfully

cake.jpgFor a special birthday celebration, I have always wanted to experiment with fondant. The Sillycone trays made shaping the fondant easy and fun to decorate our three layer chocolate decadence cake. Make a wish!

Reverse Your Thinking
Mold to your hearts content, but also think outside the mold. Serendiptously, we found that we could also have some fun with Sillycone's Number Trays and Letter Ice Trays in reverse order. Placing the trays in glass pie tins, we put the trays in shallow water then in the freezer. Pulling the trays out once frozen, we found the perfect imprints of numbers and letters. Add a little food coloring to each letter and voila! - we had a very interesting mold with all sorts of applications to add to your punch bowl or just hours of creative fun for the kids!

dye.jpg What's amazing about Sillycone Trays is that you can literally do anything with them. They are highly flexible and can be used safely from freezing to baking. Sillycone even suggests some other creative ideas like making your own sidewalk chalk, pouring concrete numbers, molding your own soap, candles, and crayons, too. With the holiday season coming up, there are all kinds of applications for homemade fun. They also make for a perfect stocking stuffer under $20.  :)

Special thanks to Calvina Photography who helped tell the story through her photography, exclusively for Extraordinique.
babywit-skullsneaks.jpgBaby Wit has a great "get it" factor when it comes to moms who want to dress their kids in everything and anything other than cute, fuzzy teddy bears or "equally uninteresting creatures."

Baby Wit has a great collection of quirky, eclectic, urban-to-suburban chic, including the largest collection of comic infant toddler t's online.

What I loved is their clothing picked to get into the Halloween spirit and thought these skull and cross bones kicks were awesome and this red infinity skulls shift dress was rockin' too!

Baby Wit also carries organic baby gifts and even cool accessories for the other "good boy" in your life, the pup! Woof!

Plasma Car for Elron & Judy

belbambini.jpgI had a Big Wheels as a kid. Now, kids today get this super cute and stylish Plasma Car by Bel Bambini. It comes in a rainbow of juicy colors, including pink, red, purple, blue, green and yellow. As I was doing research on the Plasma Car, I also came across the old (now new again) Radio Flyer InchWorm. Anybody remember the 1970 InchWorm jingle?! Ahh, to be a kid again.

emtanner-lunchboxes-ban.jpgAs a kid, the best part about going back to school was the shopping trip for school uniforms and a new lunch box. The lunch box always seemed to define my connection to what was popular at the time. I had my Holly Hobby, an assortment of Hanna Barbera-themed boxes and then I think I even had a Star Wars lunchbox, or was that my brother? Either way, lunch boxes were a symbol of style, a conversational piece at lunch time, and often packed with goodies and love from mom. Scouting for some Extraordinique items for Back to School this week, I came across EM Tanner Designs, who brings back the lunchbox in a fun and funky way.

emtanner-lunchboxes-asst.jpgSince we have lots of nieces and nephews headed back to school this week, I thought I would feature these personalized retro-inspired lunchboxes so the kids can "kick it old school."

I think I may even need one, like the Party Dots Funky Lunchbox. That looks like fun to carry my Function Light Weight, my PB&J and TCHO chocolates. I'm sure all the kids at work will be jealous too. Hee Hee

Now, This Is A Playhouse

playhouses.jpg

When I was a kid, I loved to hang in my playhouse. It was made of cardboard and had stencils on the walls inviting me to draw and fill the "fort" with my own artwork. Apparently, playhouses have now become real pieces of art. Recently, in a luxury gift guide, I found the ultimate playhouses ranging from a two-story victorian home to Red Beard's Revenge Pirate Ship. They even seat adults to join in the fun and festivities. These extraordinary playhouses are custom built with endless interior and exterior possibilities. Whether it's cable, running water, electricity, central air or a wireless communication system, the architect/builder is said to accommodate your requirements. They can even build a miniature replica of your home. I'm thinking that would be great for a home office option "to play." Whatdya think?

2008 has been the "year of the baby" within our circle of friends. So many of our friends are expecting or have just recently delivered a bouncing baby boy or girl. We are surprised to see so many boys and when they come in sets of two, that means even more fun and extraordinique things for me to find for our "Mommy" friends. We welcomed lots of wonderful babies last month with great strong names like Haaken, Lincoln, and Trevor. Needing to buy quite a bit of baby gifts, I always like to find something that is super functional and fun for mom to enjoy and use for her baby (or babies for the moms-with-muliples).

Skimbaco, an upscale children's boutique, recently turned me on to Baby Star, which among other totally modern and stylish baby products, have a great line of boys, girls and unisex bibs. The printed patterns are great -- colorful and stylish for high-chair chic! As Baby Star puts it, "they catch drool and mac + cheese in a very hip way."  For all the mom's and "SavvyAunties" with hungry mouths to feed, these are on the top of my list to give as gifts.

All Baby Star products are formaldehyde-free, making them safe for baby and the environment.
